Bella Sees Strong Sales on Opening Weekend, 2nd Highest Per TheaterHollywood, CA (LifeNews.com)
Bella, the pro-life themed movie that has the potential to change hearts and minds on abortion, opened solidly with $1.3 million over the weekend in a limited release in just 31 cities. Though other movies achieved higher gross sales, they needed significantly more theaters to do so. The film stars Eduardo Verastegui as a former soccer player who learns the value of human life and helps a pregnant waitress, played by Tammy Blanchard, appreciate the value of the baby she's carrying. The number one movie this weekend, according to initial figures, was "Saw IV," a Holloween horror flick that took in $32.1 million. The movie had the highest per theater average of any in the top ten with $10,087 per theater over 3,183 theaters across the nation. Bella firmly established itself in second place with $7,784 on average at each of the 167 theaters where it opened this weekend. That's well ahead of the projections for any of the other movies in the top ten that played at 10-20 times more theaters such as Disney’s romantic comedy “Dan in Real Life," the horror movie “30 Days of Night” or Disney’s other top movie “The Game Plan."

Black Pro-Life Leader Calls for Day of Prayer on National Blackout Day

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) --

Dr. Alveda King, the niece of the late Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., and a representative of Priests for Life, last week endorsed the National Black Out Day scheduled for November 2. But she took a different direction as she urged participants use the day to repent and pray about abortion. "National Black Out Day is a call to African Americans to refrain from spending any money on November 2, but if it's to make any difference, it needs to include much more," she told LifeNews.com. "Any action any of us takes will be in vain if we don't humble ourselves, repent, and pray to God for His will to be done. We need to do more than refrain from buying and selling. For starters, we need to stop killing each other, and that includes paying abortionists to kill our children." Dr. King added: "Injustice is a blight on our land and we are right to protest it whenever and wherever it appears. The greatest injustice we face, though, is the denial of the right to life. Without life, no other rights exist. We need to spend National Black Out Day asking God to rid our nation of the evil of abortion."

Fox News Airs Abortion Documentary Saturday,
Will Show an Abortion

New York, NY (LifeNews.com) --

The Fox News Channel is set to focus on the abortion choices of three women this weekend in a new documentary covering the sensitive issue. "Facing Reality, Choice" is set to air on Saturday evening and the show will focus on three pregnant women and their abortion choices, but it may not present the full facts of abortion. "The show explores the abortion issue through the eyes of three women confronting what is undoubtedly the hardest decision they've ever made," Fox News says in a preview about the program. It will feature Kayla, a 20-year-old pregnant student deciding whether to have an abortion; Jeanne, a 30-year-old mother of five who is struggling with drug addiction; and 26-year-old Brooke who has tried desperately to conceive. Fox News also says the program "also shows an abortion procedure." The news channel interviewed Dr. William Harrison, who gave an indication of the kind of morally mixed program viewers can probably expect. "It is a moral crisis for them ... this is not a black and white issue," he said. "It's not something that you can say, you know, 'This is good and this is bad.' It's a mix ... The woman who's making that decision is the only person that can make that moral choice for herself."

Hillary Clinton and the Abortion Issue

Hillary Clinton Starts Week on Women's Issues by Promoting Abortion

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Hillary Clinton began a week devoted to women's issues on Monday but she used her first policy speech to bash President Bush on the issue of abortion. Clinton says she has a lead in the Democratic race for president because of the backing of women but she may find it more difficult, one poll shows, to attract women next year. Clinton started her week devoted to women with an appearance on ABC's "The View" and plans to deliver a policy address in New Hampshire on Tuesday. She also had an appearance with a New York activist group Monday and, criticized President Bush on abortion by saying he had appointed judges to the Supreme Court who had limited abortion rights. The high court, in April, found that the nation's ban on partial-birth abortions, which Bush signed into law, was constitutional. The ban enjoyed the support of anywhere from 60-80 percent of Americans depending on the poll. Clinton told the television program that she's happy some voters support her because she is the only woman in the race but wants to be supported because she is the best candidate.

Today the The New York Times published an article on the presidential candidate's positions on the issue of abortion. To access this article click here:

This is going to be an important election for those concerned about the abortion issue.

Sinners Saved by Grace

Sometimes people hesitate to become involved in ministry because they believe that their troubles, past and current provide a negative witness to others. I think it is important for the clients of Lois' Lodge to understand that those of us that serve at Lois' Lodge are all just sinners saved by grace, striving to live a life that is pleasing to our Lord and Savior. In God's eyes, none of us are any better than the troubled families that we seek to help. We all struggle with our sin nature. The Bible says that, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God"; Romans 3:23. As Christians we believe that the only difference between those of us that have invited Christ into our life and those that have not is that 1) we have the assurance that no matter how many times we mess up we are forgiven and 2) the assurance of a wonderful future into eternity. John 10:28 tells us, "And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand". If you are not a Christian and are interested in learning more about how you can have these assurances see: "The Secret to Life Change", in the right hand column of this blog. Also, please feel free to check in with me. I would love to talk to you more about this. Debbie

Christian Women by Maya Angelou

"A woman's heart should be so hidden in Christ that a man should have to seek Him first to find her."

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin'"
I'm whispering "I was lost, Now I'm found and forgiven."

When I say... "I am a Christian" I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say.. "I am a Christian" I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak and need His strength to carry on.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.

When I say.. "I am a Christian" I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible but, God believes I am worth it.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner Who received God's good grace, some how!
