Secondary Virginity

We are celebrating at Lois' Lodge. One of your young moms has made an abstinence pledge. She has signed a card stating the following:

"Believing that true love waits, I make a commitment to God, myself, my family, my friends, my future mate, and my future children to a lifetime of purity including sexual abstinence from this day until the day I enter a biblical marriage relationship."

Some of you may be reading this and saying- "Um, excuse me Debbie. This girl is pregnant. There is no way that she can be a virgin again." This is what I tell our clients, "secondary virginity" is a decision to abstain from sexual activity, starting with today and continuing until the day you get married. It’s an opportunity to start over. Your physical virginity may be lost, but virginity is more than just a physical state. It’s an attitude, a frame of mind. It’s manifested in the way you look at yourself and others.

Secondary virginity is a time to change bad habits and heal past wounds. It allows you to clean and renew yourself prior to marriage.

When one of our residents makes a commitment for Secondary Virginity we purchase a ring for her. The ring says "True Love Waits" and it a reminder of her commitment to God and herself. Good stuff is always happening at Lois' Lodge. Get involved!!!

The Billy Graham Library

Yesterday I went to the Billy Graham library and was truly blessed by the opportunity to learn more about this amazing man's life.

About Billy Graham

Billy Graham’s remarkable story is brought to life at the Billy Graham Library, where visitors are invited to travel on One Man’s Journey— a flowing, state-of-the-art multimedia exhibit. Beginning at a lifelike display of a dairy farm reminiscent of the Graham family homeplace and moving through each decade of Billy’s travels around the globe, visitors will experience the man, the message, the ministry, and the mission.

The Man

Only God could know the important role this dairy farmer’s son would play in world evangelism. From the humble beginnings on a farm to his decision for Christ at a local revival on the edge of Charlotte, North Carolina, to his travels around the world speaking in stadiums filled to capacity, Billy Graham has pursued a singular vision—to share the love of Jesus Christ with all who would listen. In doing so he has met with Presidents, kings, queens, celebrities, and everyday men, women, and children. No matter his audience, the message is still the same. “Everywhere I go I find that people … both leaders and individuals … are asking one basic question,” Billy Graham has said. “‘Is there any hope for the future?’ My answer is the same, ‘Yes, through Jesus Christ.’”

The Message

An old preacher approached Billy Graham following the 1954 Harringay Arena Crusade in London. “I have come here every night” and listened to many different sermons, the minister told him, “and I have heard only one message.” It was a compliment, for he, like Billy Graham, knew that there is only one message that can bring real hope to a lost world.
Billy Graham’s message has never changed, and it never will. It is a simple message, but one that comes straight from God’s Word. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16, NKJV).

The Ministry

In over 55 years of ministry, Billy Graham has preached the Gospel message to more than 210 million people in over 185 countries across the globe. The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, which he founded in 1950, reaches out to millions more each year through radio and television broadcasts, films, literature, training, and the Internet.

“Until [the 20th] century the extent of an evangelist’s outreach was determined by the limits of his voice and the distribution of his writings. … Within the last few years, it has literally become possible to proclaim the Gospel to the entire world. … If Jesus were here today, I have no doubt He would make use of every means possible to declare His message.”—Billy Graham

The Mission

Whether exhorting a small crowd of teens at a Youth For Christ rally, speaking against apartheid in a stadium in South Africa, or praying for a wounded nation in the aftermath of 9/11, Billy Graham has lived as a man on a mission following hard after God’s calling. The mission has evolved as technology has opened doors to the whole world, but the message of hope in Christ has remained unchanged. That message continues to change hearts the world over.

The Billy Graham Library is part of this timeless mission. Each person who passes through the doors, at the foot of a large glass cross, will encounter the story of a man who made it his life’s work to tell history’s most powerful story—that God loves all of us and invites us to experience that love through His Son, Jesus Christ.

The Library is conveniently located off Billy Graham Parkway, near the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, I-77, and I-85 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Address is: 4330 Westmont DriveCharlotte, NC 28217 (704)401-3200. We are so fortunate to have this wonderful resource in our backyard in Charlotte. What a great way to introduce your friends to a great man and to Christianity.

National Campaign Accepting Nominations for the 2007-2008 Youth Leadership Team

The deadline to nominate a teen for the National Campaign's next Youth Leadership Team (YLT) is fast approaching and we we hope you will consider nominating some outstanding young people to participate.

Since 1998, the YLT has served as the National Campaign’s eyes and ears into teen culture and its members advise the National Campaign on a variety of issues. The YLT convenes at least twice during the 18-month term to help to shape Campaign policies, programs, and messages; receive training so that they can represent the Campaign to the press and media; work to raise awareness about teen pregnancy and its prevention in their communities; and give voice to the unique perspectives and opinions of teens.

In between meetings the teens are active in implementing prevention programs into their own communities and assisting the Campaign with such projects as The National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy and the new teen website, StayTeen.org.

In the past, YLT members have had their opinions published in publications which reach thousands of other teens and adults each year; served as teen spokespeople for media and press outlets such as CNN, The New York Times, MTV, and The Washington Post; visited Capitol Hill and met with their Senators and Representatives to talk about teen pregnancy prevention; and written articles for teen websites and magazines such as Teen People and MTV.com.

The National Campaign is looking for teens who are:
14-17 years of age as of September 1, 2007; Committed to working in their community to prevent teen pregnancy during and between YLT meetings; Able to participate in YLT meetings and events and make the required commitment of time and energy; Able to travel at least two times over an 18-month period to attend YLT meetings in Washington, DC and other Campaign-sponsored events; Interested in talking to local and national media about the role of teens in teen pregnancy prevention; and Willing to work respectfully with others.

We hope that you will nominate any teens that you believe would make a positive contribution to the Youth Leadership Team. Feel free to nominate teens directly or to forward this message to an organization or individual that might want to nominate a teen. This is a unique, fun, and valuable learning experience, as well as an impressive addition to a college resume.

The deadline is Friday, August 3, 2007, so visit the YLT section of our website today and learn more about the YLT and download the nomination form. If you have any questions, please contact Michael Rosst at 202-478-8507 or http://webmail.aol.com/28518/aol/en-us/mrosst@thenc.org.
